Understanding The Role Of Memory Initiatives In Communities Struggling With Impunity

27/06/2011 - Debating in the Netherlands
with youth, experts and policy-makers

This report presents the proceedings and main findings of a series of debates held in the Netherlands in 2010 to explore the role played by memory initiatives in post-conflict societies.

The series formed the first part of a broader 'Perspectives' project, involving comparative research in six diverse countries on the needs, experiences and dilemmas associated with memorialisation. That research is currently underway, and is due for publication towards the end of 2011.

This will be followed in 2012 with an international exchange conference to draw out conclusions from the case studies and generate practical recommendations concerning memorialisation.
