Santa Lucía book presentation
13/09/2011 - On 25 September 2011 IW and Solidaridad presented a remembrance book in the "Doopsgezinde kerk" in Haarlem. The book tells the story of 30 men and women from Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa, Guatemala who disappeared or were killed during the 36-year internal conflict.The story is told by family members and friends of the victims, who are confronted with unanswered questions and the loss of their loved ones on a daily basis.
Ester Back and Alicia Juárez, protagonists in the book, received the first copy of the book during this event. After that the book will travel symbolically to Guatemala.
The website dewegvansantalucia.com/ shows the journey of the book to Guatemala and draws the attention to the possibility of sponsoring the making of a family album for each of the families.
This special presentation took place on Sunday 25 September in the church "Doopsgezinde kerk" in Haarlem.
There is the opportunity to visit the photo exhibition of Piet den Blanken on Santa Lucía at DEGANG, the exhibition space of the church: Guatemala: terug in beeld Leven met een verdwenen generatie (Guatemala: back in images. Living with a lost generation).
