❏ STREAMING MEDIA ❏
Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a provider. The verb to stream identifies the process of delivering or obtaining media in this manner.[clarification needed] Streaming refers to the delivery method of the medium, instead of the medium itself. Distinguishing delivery method from the media distributed applies particularly to telecommunications networks, as almost all of the delivery systems are either inherently streaming (e.g. radio, television, streaming apps) or inherently non-streaming (e.g. books, video cassettes, music CDs). There are challenges with streaming content on the Internet.
For instance, users whose Internet connection lacks satisfactory bandwidth may experience stops, lags, or slow buffering of the content. And users lacking compatible hardware or software systems may be unable to stream certain content.
For Eurovision fans the wait is over – the week of the 2022 Song Contest is upon us.
While many British viewers tune in for the prospect of barbed one-liners from Graham Norton, this year’s UK entry Sam Ryder has also been tipped (genuinely) as a potential winner.
However, he will have to get past the Ukrainian entry the Kalush Orchestra, which is understandably expected to fare strongly in the popular vote.
This year’s Song Contest is being held in Pala Alpitour in Turin following Italy’s victory in last year’s final, courtesy of rockers Måneskin – here’s how to watch it all live in the UK.
How to watch Eurovision 2022 in the UK
The inal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is on Saturday 14 May, presented by Italian TV star Alessandro Cattelan and singers Laura Pausini and Mika in Turin.
It is being broadcast live on BBC One from 8.00pm until midnight, with Graham Norton on hand to provide his usual acerbic commentary.
You can catch all the action live online through BBC iPlayer, where you will also be able to catch up after the event.
Before the final, though, there are two semi-finals to decide who gets the chance to perform (apart from the “big five,” of which the UK is a member).
The first semi-final is on Tuesday 10 May, with the second following on Thursday 12 May, with both starting at 8.00pm and lasting until just past 10.00pm.
These are both airing live on BBC Three (while you can also catch them on BBC iPlayer), with coverage presented by Rylan and Scott Mills from Turin.
When it comes to the results on the night, the crucial role of the UK’s spokesperson will be fulfilled by TV presenter Aj Odudu.
Who is the UK’s Eurovision 2022 entry?
Sam Ryder was confirmed as the UK’s Eurovision 2022 entry back in March and will perform the song “Space Man”, which featured as Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills’ track of the week at the time.
The singer found fame covering songs on TikTok during periods of Covid lockdown, which earned him attention from the likes of Justin Bieber and Alicia Keys.
Ryder’s success earned him more than 12 million followers on TikTok, making him the most followed UK music artist on the platform.
In previous years, British fans were given the chance to vote for the UK’s Eurovision entry.
However, as was the case for James Newman, who represented Britain in 2021, this year the decision was made by the BBC and global music management company TaP Music.
When he was announced, Ryder said: “Having been a fan of Eurovision since I was a kid, I am so honoured to have been presented with the opportunity to sing at an event alongside some of Europe’s most talented creatives, performers and songwriters.
“I hope to sing my head off in a way the UK can be proud of, and to showcase a song I wrote with my friends last summer makes the whole experience even more special. See you in Turin, legends!”

It can also be used to host sports like ice hockey, basketball and volleyball, so the capacity varies.
