Feliciana Macario is a leading member of CONAVIGUA, the National Coordinator of Widows of the Disappeared during the Guatemalan armed conflict (1960-1996), which has been seeking justice for victims and their families since 1988. In this interview, Feliciana explains how CONAVIGUA contributed to seeking justice. She touches on the main obstacles that women face in their pursuit of justice. She talks about what motivates her to continue seeking justice and highlights what the international community can do to support victims.

Feliciana was one of the speakers at the international conference ‘Victims: Front and Centre,’ organised by Redress and Impunity Watch in The Hague on 17 October 2019. The conference brought together policymakers with survivors of the conflicts in Guatemala and Guatemala to discuss how to ensure meaningful and effective participation in transitional justice processes.

CONAVIGUA is a human rights organisation initially founded by women whose husbands were killed or disappeared during the internal armed conflict in Guatemala.
