Country Programme Manager - Burundi

Christella Niyonzima is a transitional justice and peacebuilding practitioner with expertise in gender and conflict sensitivity. She joined Impunity Watch in 2016 and is currently our Country Programme Manager, co-managing our Burundi programme.

With a background in political science and international relations, Christella holds a Master’s degree in peace and governance. In addition to her focus on gender equality, she is passionate about arts and culture, particularly their contribution to community-driven transitional justice and their role in restoring the social fabric.

Christella is a member of the African Union Transitional Justice Reference Group and has spoken at various expert meetings and conferences on the subject of gender and masculinities. She has co-produced studies and articles on topics including peacebuilding, post-conflict reconstruction, and on the UN’s Women, Peace and Security agenda.
