We believe that transitional justice will be more effective if the process is rooted in an understanding of local contexts and enables the most marginalised to participate. This is known as politically informed transitional justice.
Impunity Watch supports civil society to rely on their creativity in developing such approaches, and encourage strategies that address the root causes of abuse and power structures sustaining impunity, an approach pioneered in our scoping study.
More specifically, we:
- Convene our partners to reflect on politically sensitive approaches in transitional justice processes.
- Analyse interconnections between transitional justice, peace and constitution building processes.
- Stimulate improved exchange and coordination of support for such processes.
- Identify and share examples of such approaches in practice.
