Recently, Guatemala concluded an intense court election process that culminated on 13 October 2024 with the swearing-in of thirteen magistrates for the Supreme Court of Justice and 156 judges for the Courts of Appeals for the 2024-2029 term. The process lasted almost six months (April-October 2024), and it aroused great national and international attention because it was seen as an opportunity to renew the justice system, rescue the independence of the judiciary, and restore public confidence in justice, considering the serious deterioration that the judicial system has faced in recent years.
