On 25 March 2024, the trial will begin against the former military officer Benedicto Lucas for the genocide commited against the Ixil people during the dictarsohip of his brother Romeo Lucas Garcia (1978-1982). This is the second trial of genocide in Guatemala for the atrocities committed against the Maya Ixil People. The first case was tried in 2013, which condemned the dictator Efrain Rios Montt. El 25 de marzo de 2024 comenzará el juicio contra el exmilitar Benedicto Lucas por el genocidio cometido contra el pueblo ixil durante la dictadura de su hermano Romeo Lucas García (1978-1982). Este es el segundo juicio por genocidio en Guatemala por las atrocidades cometidas contra el Pueblo Maya Ixil. El primer caso fue juzgado en 2013, que condenó al dictador Efraín Ríos Montt.
