The trial for the genocide of the Maya Ixil People during the military dictatorship of Romeo Lucas García (1978-1982) is in the final phase. It began on April 5, 2024 in the High Risk Court “A”, with more than ninety hearings held to date and more than 10000 pieces of evidence presented against Manuel Benedicto Lucas García, former Chief of the General Staff of the Army, who is accused of genocide, forced disappearance and crimes against the duties of humanity.
